Curaçao introduces stricter rules to keep people off the street

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao introduces stricter rules to reduce the number of people on the street. The government has drawn up a list stating on which day which cars are allowed to drive which license plates. This was announced by the Minister of Justice Quincy Girigorie on Wednesday.

For example, on Wednesdays and Saturdays only cars are allowed on the street, the registration of which starts with an S, T, V, X or Y. This means that vehicles are only allowed to enter the street twice a week. No cars are allowed to drive on Sundays.

Curaçao introduced a curfew on Saturday and a lockdown on Monday to ensure that people stay at home as much as possible, to prevent the spread of the coronvirus. Walking and cycling are also prohibited. According to Girigorie, there was still too much traffic on the street on Monday and Tuesday during the day. "That number has to drop drastically. People have to stay at home."
