WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao is negotiating a new tax treaty with Norway. The Ministry of Finance is attending a meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Morocco, where banks, finance ministers, and other financial departments convene. The Minister of Finance, Javier Silvania (MFK), is also present.
Curaçao has had a tax treaty with Norway for many years, but the country terminated the treaty in June of this year. The ministry's task is to negotiate with Norwegian State Secretary Erlend Grimstad at the IMF meeting in Marrakech to reach a new agreement.
The treaty should align with global tax standards. In addition to discussions with Grimstad, the government is also engaging with Barbados and Mauritius to explore the possibility of new tax treaties with those countries. Like the Curaçao government, they are focused on the financial situation within their nations.
