WILLEMSTAD - The government of Curaçao has received nearly 80 million guilders more in taxes, social premiums, and ground rent than originally budgeted for this year, up until November. The initial revenue forecast for the first eleven months was set at just over 2.01 billion guilders, while official figures from the Ministry of Finance show that 2.09 billion guilders had already been collected by November.
The increase is largely attributed to higher-than-expected value-added tax (VAT) receipts, with an additional 33 million guilders collected. Income tax revenues have also exceeded expectations by 16 million guilders. The Ministry of Finance plans to process all the figures in January to provide a comprehensive view of the year 2024.
For December, the government expects to generate 197.1 million guilders in revenue. However, the Ministry of Finance cautioned that income expected after 2024, for expenses or services provided throughout the year, may negatively affect the final results.
