Curaçao government plans to expand hiring across ministries

| By Correspondent March 16, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao plans to recruit more personnel for its ministries in the coming period after the Council of Ministers approved an updated intake plan for 2025 and 2026.

Under the revised plan, the number of vacancies within the public sector will increase from 312 to approximately 500 positions. The expansion applies to all ministries and is intended to strengthen government capacity and help fill open positions more quickly.

The decision was taken based on advice from the acting secretary-general of the Ministry of Governance, Planning and Public Service, as well as the sector director for Financial Policy and Budget Management. The proposal was submitted by the Minister of Governance, Planning and Public Service.

The move comes at a time when the Board of Financial Supervision (Cft) has warned about the growth of government wage costs. According to the Cft, structural expenditures such as personnel expenses must remain manageable within the national budget in order to safeguard the country’s financial stability.

At the same time, the supervisory body has previously acknowledged that the government faces capacity shortages because many vacancies are difficult to fill. As a result, some public services remain understaffed and the implementation of policies can be delayed.

With the updated hiring plan, the government aims to address these staffing shortages while still taking into account the financial constraints monitored by the Cft.
