WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao government is further expanding the distribution of the 'Bashí-Premie' to support financially vulnerable groups.
A one-time payment of 150 guilders has already been granted to 5,882 social assistance recipients, while 24,060 AOV (old age pension) and AWW (widows' and orphans' pension) recipients have received 350 guilders each. The total cost of this measure amounts to 8.42 million guilders, funded through internal adjustments and a contribution from the Ministry of Finance.
Recently, the Council of Ministers approved an increase in the income threshold to 1,400 guilders, enabling 3,765 additional individuals to qualify for the 'Bashí-Premie' in February.
This expansion will be financed through the 2024 budget, while the Ministry of Finance has also requested a redistribution of 2 million guilders from previously allocated SOAW funds to ensure a more balanced distribution.
