FFK aims for modern facility to boost football and local economy
WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Football Federation (Federashon Futbòl Kòrsou – FFK) has announced plans to build a new national stadium as part of its strategic policy plan for 2025–2029. The initiative reflects the federation’s ambition to elevate Curaçao’s football infrastructure to international standards and prepare for future global competitions.
FFK President Gilbert Martina expressed strong confidence in Curaçao’s potential to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, emphasizing that the island needs a larger, more modern venue to accommodate growing fan enthusiasm.
“Curaçao really needs a new, modern stadium,” Martina told NU.cw. “The last two matches were packed. We faced major limitations in capacity, logistics, and parking. I believe we could easily fill a stadium that seats between 15,000 and 17,000 people.”
Martina explained that a new national stadium would not only benefit Curaçao’s men’s, women’s, and youth national teams, but also contribute to the broader regional development of sports.
According to the FFK president, the project aims to create a financial hub around the stadium — an initiative designed to boost the local economy, attract regional tournaments, and promote Curaçao as a destination for international sporting events.
However, Martina noted that fans will need to remain patient, as the project is still in its early planning phase. Details regarding location, financing, and construction timelines are expected to follow as the federation continues consultations with government and private partners.
The FFK’s long-term vision underscores Curaçao’s growing ambition in Caribbean football and its determination to provide world-class facilities for the next generation of athletes and supporters.
