WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Football Federation is facing a severe financial crisis, confirmed team doctor Casper van Eijck in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp. Van Eijck, who is actively involved with national team coach Dick Advocaat on the island, described the situation at the federation as concerning.
According to Van Eijck, intense negotiations are taking place behind the scenes, but the football organization lacks both structure and resources. Sponsors are demanding that Advocaat remain as head coach, while FIFA insists that everything must go through the official federation. "But there is no real federation," says Van Eijck, calling the situation complicated.
The federation's financial troubles could also impact the national team. Advocaat's side recently lost a friendly match against Kazakhstan 2-0. In June, important World Cup qualification matches are scheduled against Saint Lucia and Haiti.
Curaçao is currently on six points from two World Cup qualification games. The team still has a chance to advance to the next round, though the internal issues could cast a shadow over their sporting success.
