Local, | By Press release July 6, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao's national equestrian team is preparing to represent the island at the World Equestrian Championship, which will be held in the Dominican Republic from July 15 to 19.

The announcement was made by Aspafiko, Curaçao's equestrian federation, following a special gathering over the weekend where the organization's leadership officially presented uniforms and travel gear to the 26 athletes selected to represent the island.

During the championship, the Curaçao riders will compete on assigned horses and participate in the required competition events before judges determine the winners in the various categories.

The biennial event will bring together competitors from 10 countries, including the United States, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Canada, Aruba, Panama, Curaçao, and the Dominican Republic, the host nation.

Aspafiko President Alfonso Zinhagel and members of the federation's board met with the national team on Saturday, July 4, at Harbor Restaurant. After breakfast, the athletes received words of encouragement before being presented with their official uniforms, equipment and other essential travel items.

The federation said the event was intended to motivate the athletes as they prepare to compete on the international stage while proudly representing Curaçao.

Aspafiko, which has been promoting equestrian sports on the island for many years, continues to encourage both young and adult riders to become involved in the sport and expand Curaçao's presence within the international equestrian community.

The federation also invited the public to follow the team's journey through its Facebook and Instagram pages, expressing confidence that the national pride generated by Curaçao's recent international sporting successes—referred to as the "Blue Wave"—will continue in the Dominican Republic.

The championship is expected to showcase some of the region's top equestrian talent as athletes compete for international honors across multiple disciplines.
