WILLEMSTAD – A delegation from Curaçao has participated in meetings of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) in Panama, where lawmakers and experts discussed the future of sustainable energy, electric mobility, and technological innovation across the region.

During the sessions, participants focused on the rapid growth of electric transportation and the legislative frameworks needed to support its expansion. Discussions also examined the increasing role of renewable energy sources in reducing dependence on fossil fuels and advancing sustainable development goals.

The Curaçao delegation highlighted the importance of preparing future generations for the technological changes that accompany the transition to cleaner energy and transportation systems. Education and technological innovation were key topics during the meetings, with participants emphasizing the need for schools and educational institutions to equip young people with skills in technology, electronics, and emerging industries.

Another important subject was the recycling of batteries used in electric vehicles. Delegates discussed the environmental and logistical challenges associated with battery disposal and reuse, as well as the need for policies that promote sustainable management of battery waste as electric vehicle adoption continues to increase.

According to the delegation, the discussions provided valuable insights into how countries in Latin America and the Caribbean are addressing the opportunities and challenges presented by the energy transition. The exchange of experiences and best practices is expected to help guide future policymaking efforts in Curaçao as the island continues to explore sustainable energy solutions and modern transportation alternatives.

The Parlatino meetings brought together representatives from across the region to discuss common challenges and opportunities related to energy, technology, and environmental sustainability, areas that are expected to play an increasingly important role in economic and social development in the years ahead.
