Curaçao could benefit from new EU funding program for Caribbean territories

| By Correspondent March 13, 2026

THE HAGUE – Curaçao could gain access to new European Union funding opportunities after 2027 as negotiations continue over a revised framework for the EU’s Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs).

According to the Dutch government, the new EU program will support projects in areas such as climate policy, tourism, digital connectivity and education. Caribbean territories within the Kingdom, including Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten, will be able to submit proposals directly to the European Commission.

The Netherlands says it supports stronger EU investment in the Caribbean region and will continue to emphasize the strategic importance of the islands during negotiations in Brussels.

Project proposals will only be submitted after the new framework enters into force in 2028. The Dutch government encourages the islands to ensure that any projects align with their long-term national development strategies.

Officials say EU support could help finance initiatives that strengthen economic resilience, infrastructure and regional cooperation in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
