WILLEMSTAD - Voter registration in Curaçao officially closed today, December 24. Residents with Dutch nationality who registered by today will be eligible to participate in the elections scheduled for March 21 next year. The lead-up to the elections includes some key dates: candidate lists must be submitted by January 23, while the primary elections will take place on February 1 and 2.
At the Democratic Party (DP), with Daniel Hodge as the new chairman, preparations are in full swing. In addition to a chairman, the party is also looking for a political leader or list leader. Hodge himself is being considered as a possible candidate but has not yet made a decision. “We are working hard internally on preparations, which require a lot of time and effort,” said Hodge.
The Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP) had initially planned a meeting on December 16 to ratify the candidate list, but this was postponed at the last minute. It is expected to take place in January, after the holidays.
MAN-PIN postponed the presentation of their action program to January 2025 due to changes in the parliamentary meeting schedule. The party is still finalizing its candidate list. This week, the party lost co-founder and former political leader Dominico 'Don' Martina. His funeral is expected to take place after Christmas.
Elsewhere, things are relatively quiet. Trabou pa Kòrsou (TPK) announced its participation in the elections after parliament member Rennox Calmes won a lawsuit regarding the use of the party name. The Partido Alternativa Real (PAR) has nearly completed its candidate selection and is working on its election campaign.
The Movimiento Futuro Korsou (MFK) states that it is stronger than ever and ready for the elections. The party emphasizes the achievements of the past three and a half years and will focus its campaign on the successes of the current ministers. With a large number of ministers and parliament members, finalizing the candidate list will be a challenge.
