WILLEMSTAD - The first cleaning day of Curaçao Clean Up starts on Friday, with activities organized in the context of World Clean Up Day, which takes place globally on Saturday. This year marks the first time that Curaçao will host not one, but two cleaning days.
Since 2013, between 2,500 and 3,500 volunteers have traditionally participated in the initiative. “We hope to involve more schools, businesses, and institutions this year by organizing the cleaning action on a weekday,” said Curaçao Clean Up.
The goal of World Clean Up Day is to make Curaçao cleaner and send a collective message against pollution, specifically targeting those who litter on the streets and drivers who dump large waste in nature. In recent months, illegal dumping has become a hot topic on the island.
This year's theme, 'Clean Up Superheroes,' encourages participants to act as true heroes in the fight against pollution. Volunteers will receive the necessary cleaning materials and have the chance to win prizes for the most enthusiastic and effective teams.
