WILLEMSTAD - Over the course of two days, a team of volunteers from Curaçao Clean Up worked to clean up Klein Curaçao. The major cleanup effort was carried out in preparation for World Cleanup Day 2023, scheduled for September 16th.
The volunteers dedicated their efforts to clearing plastic waste, branches, and sargassum from the north side of the island. These materials pose obstacles for sea turtles that lay their nests on the island and can also threaten young turtles as they make their way to the sea.
Curaçao Clean Up emphasizes the importance of collaboration, and as such, volunteers from Sea Turtle Conservation Curaçao, Uniek Curaçao, and representatives from Resembid worked together over these two days to achieve a common goal. In addition, the crews of Mermaid and Miss Ann Boattrips provided full support to make this cleanup operation a success.
