Curaçao and the Netherlands reach an agreement to continue with the second Implementation Agenda

THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD - On Friday, April 30, 2021, Curaçao and the Netherlands reached an agreement on the concrete content and goals of the second Implementation Agenda. This is another important step towards the implementation of necessary reforms, aimed at strengthening the rule of law in Curaçao and improving, among other things, financial and socio-economic management, that in the field of taxation and that of care and education. The second implementation agenda was formalized during a virtual meeting between Prime Minister Rhuggenaath and Undersecretary of Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops.

The second Implementation Agenda includes the continuation of several activities and projects highlighted in the first Implementation Agenda, which contribute to the development of a more resilient economy and community. In other words, an economy and community that are much better able to deal with crises, new opportunities and prospects for the population and companies. Based on the experiences with the execution of the first implementation agenda in the first quarter of 2021, the necessary adjustments have been made and new or additional actions and work procedures have been determined for the following quarter. The same process will take place every quarter, whereby this will be continuously related to the decision-making of the Council of Ministers for more liquidity support in the context of the COVID-19 crisis.

Prime Minister Rhuggenaath is satisfied with the process that Curaçao and the Netherlands have gone through so far. It is now more important than ever to continue to take firm and concrete steps in the implementation of the reform package, which is essential to overcome the socio-economic crisis in which the country finds itself and to create prospects for sustainable growth. The continued implementation of this second implementation agenda is an important step in achieving this.
