WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao and Suriname signed an agreement in Paramaribo on Thursday to prevent double taxation, as announced by the Ministry of Finance.
According to the ministry, the tax treaty will reduce tax and economic barriers, making it more attractive to engage in economic activities in both countries. "The treaty meets all international standards," said the Ministry of Finance.
The treaty is said to fulfill a long-standing desire between the two countries. There have been multiple negotiations in the past, but it never led to signing.
Germaine Rekwest, tax treaty negotiator from the Ministry of Finance of Curaçao, signed the tax treaty on behalf of the Minister of Finance, Javier Silvania. The Surinamese delegation was led by Marita Wijnerman, head of Taxation.
