WILLEMSTAD, PARAMARIBO - Curaçao and Suriname are joining forces to strengthen the healthcare and hospitality sectors through experience-based certification. The organizations Impact Suriname and Edu Design Caribbean, both recognized EVC providers, have signed an agreement to formalize this collaboration. EVC stands for Erkenning van Verworven Competenties (Recognition of Acquired Competencies), a system that allows individuals with sufficient work experience to earn certification without needing traditional education.
In Curaçao, there is a shortage of qualified healthcare personnel, despite many individuals having significant experience in caregiving and patient care. Impact Suriname will assess these caregivers through evaluations and guide them through a certification process. This initiative aims to alleviate the shortage of healthcare professionals on the island. The resulting certificates will be recognized regionally and in Europe.
In Suriname, Edu Design Caribbean will focus on the hospitality sector, where skilled personnel are also in short supply. Employees with practical experience will have the opportunity to validate their skills officially through assessments and certification pathways.
The collaboration between the two organizations is set to begin in January 2025. Further details about the official launch date will be announced soon. Upon successful completion of the program, experience-based certificates will be registered in the Dutch EVC registry, making them valid in Europe as well.
