Curaçao and Aruba Explore Joint Connection to Celia Subsea Cable

WILLEMSTAD, ORANJESTAD – Curaçao’s Minister of Finance and Health, Javier Silvania, held discussions last week in Aruba on the potential for joint cooperation between the two islands in connecting to the Celia subsea cable, which links the Caribbean to the Americas.

The talks focused on the strategic importance of securing high-speed, reliable digital connectivity for both countries. Minister Silvania met with his Aruban counterpart, Minister Geoffrey Wever, and also held meetings with Setar, Aruba’s government-owned telecommunications company. Representing Curaçao was Neysa Isenia, a board member of utility company Aqualectra.

Silvania stated that both countries are “on the same page” when it comes to working together on this digital infrastructure project. The Celia cable could enhance regional data connectivity, improve cybersecurity, and support economic development through better internet services.

The visit marks an important step toward strengthening inter-island cooperation in the area of technology and telecommunications, potentially paving the way for broader regional partnerships in digital infrastructure.
