WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and Aruba Prime Minister Mike Eman have discussed closer cooperation between Curaçao and Aruba on waste management, recycling and other shared social challenges.

The bilateral meeting took place on October 8 in the presence of Curaçao’s Minister Plenipotentiary in the Netherlands, Carlson Manuel Justiana.

During the talks, Pisas and Eman discussed several social issues affecting both islands, including challenges involving pensions, social assistance and the minimum wage.

The two prime ministers also exchanged views on waste management and possible new approaches to address problems that Curaçao and Aruba have in common. The discussions included opportunities to share knowledge and explore cooperation in cleaning, recycling and sustainable waste management.

Social conditions were another subject of the meeting. Eman discussed his recent visits to communities in Aruba where residents have fewer financial resources, providing an opportunity for the two leaders to compare social challenges facing their respective populations.

The meeting also touched on Eman’s political future following recent changes in the leadership of his political party and his stated intention to step down in January 2027.

According to the Curaçao government, the island intends to continue working with leaders throughout the region to exchange knowledge and develop solutions that contribute to social progress and sustainable development.
