WILLEMSTAD - The government of Curaçao has earmarked 54 million guilders for infrastructure projects in the year 2024. This announcement came from Minister Charles Cooper of Traffic, Transportation, and Spatial Planning (VVRP) during the reopening of the renovated Cadushistraat.
The renovation of this street primarily took place at night to minimize disruption for motorists and enable more efficient work. Although the nighttime approach is more costly, the minister emphasized its efficiency and its minimal interference with daily life.
The investment of 54 million guilders is substantial, with the ministry estimating one million guilders per kilometer of asphalt. Additionally, the 54 million is not solely designated for road construction; it also encompasses street lighting, traffic lights, sewage systems, bridges, viaducts, road signs, and guardrails.
The roadwork on Cadushistraat is not yet complete, with gutters and drainage facilities still pending installation. It is important for motorists to be aware that, like the restored Caracasbaaiweg in 2019, the renewed road will not feature road markings due to cost considerations by the government.
