WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao is working towards full membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO) by 2026. Since 2019, the island has been actively pursuing the membership process and has held observer status within the organization since 2020.
The government has set its sights on achieving full membership during the WTO Ministerial Conference in Cameroon in 2026. Membership would open doors to better access to international markets, boost export opportunities, and strengthen the island's economic integration globally.
"We view WTO membership as a strategic investment for long-term economic benefits," the Curaçaoan government stated.
A multidisciplinary commission, involving various ministries and agencies, is overseeing the membership process. Each year, budgets are allocated for international negotiations and technical preparations to support this goal.
The move aligns with Curaçao's broader ambitions to enhance its global trade footprint and foster sustainable economic growth.
