WILLEMSTAD - 38 employees of Curacao Refinery Utilities (CRU) have successfully completed a course on responding to oil spills in the sea. This course was necessary in light of the new and more sophisticated equipment that CRU has acquired to address oil spills in the waters of Bullenbaai. The course consisted of two weeks of theoretical preparation and one week of practical training. With the well-equipped and adequately trained personnel, Bullenbaai is now capable of responding to incidents up to Tier 1 level.

In this manner, CRU is also preparing to lead an island-wide simulation of an oil spill in our waters. Through this simulation, all actors involved in such an event can come together, collaborate, and better prepare themselves for any future accidents that may occur.
