WILLEMSTAD - The parliament has been misinformed about the redevelopment plans for Caracasbaai by the government, according to PAR MP Steven Croes. In a letter to Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas, Croes raises questions he wants answered during the question hour at the end of August.
Croes begins the letter by recalling December 2023 and January 2024, when the plans for Caracasbaai were unveiled, including an online video presenting the vision for the area. According to these plans, Caracasbaai is set to be transformed into a luxury beach area with various facilities, sports fields, a concert venue, and a multi-story parking garage.
The MP notes that there was a lot of criticism on social media about the plans and says he was recently approached by concerned citizens. "They fear that the developments will turn the traditional beach into a tourist attraction, causing the local population to lose their familiar beach," said Croes. The MP emphasizes the importance of balance and inclusion in the developments so that the local community can continue to enjoy the beaches as they are used to.
The parliamentarian asks, among other things, what arguments and consultations have led to the current design. Additionally, Croes wants to know if there are still possibilities for adjustments within the current conceptual design.
