WILLEMSTAD - Strengthening cooperation and sustainability were the central themes of Klaas Knot's speech, President of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), as a guest speaker at the business lunch organized by the Association of Curacao Businesses (VBC) in celebration of its 80th anniversary. Knot placed particular emphasis on Curaçao's position in this dynamic context.
Member of Parliament for the PAR party, Steven Croes highlighted the importance of collaboration with various stakeholders, including the government, other central banks, the financial sector, and businesses, in Knot's discourse. "I am pleased to be here to further strengthen our ties with the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten and your business communities," stated the DNB President.
According to Croes, "Another crucial topic addressed by Mr. Knot is the transition to a sustainable economy. He recognized the role that Curaçao can play in this transition and emphasized the need for collaboration, even at the international level." Knot also underscored that central banks can play a pivotal role in promoting sustainable economic development and successfully encouraging and implementing sustainable choices.
Despite these positive messages, Croes emphasizes the importance of good collaboration between the governments of Curaçao and the Netherlands and regrets that the current relationship between both governments is not at its best. He hopes that Mr. Knot's visit can be seen as an outstretched hand to improve relations between the countries.
