WILLEMSTAD - The number of COVID-19 infections in Curaçao puts enormous pressure on medical care. Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath said at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon that the situation is "very serious."
There are 33 intensive care beds in the CMC, 32 people with a corona infection are on such an ICU bed. An emotional Rhuggenaath said "the hospital is full". The hospital has 300 beds in total, half of which is already reserved for corona patients. This means that regular medical care is jeopardized.
Rhuggenaath called on people to stay at home as much as possible. As a measure, the government has adjusted the curfew. As of April 2, everyone must now be in at seven o'clock in the evening instead of nine o'clock.
