Court withholds judgment in case between CMC and GMN

Local | By Correspondent June 7, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Yesterday, the court heard a case filed by the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) against the Ministry of Health, Nature, and Environment (GMN). The hospital seeks to continue receiving an advance for the so-called transition costs and also an advance for the healthcare costs of uninsured individuals. Altogether, this amounts to more than 25 million guilders per year. Finally, the CMC requests the completion of an investigation by KPMG to facilitate the restructuring of the hospital's debts. The judge has not yet rendered a judgment; instead, he wants both parties to engage in discussions to see if they can reach an agreement.

After hearing both parties, the judge proposed a temporary solution. The parties must inform the court no later than June 20 whether the KPMG investigation is available, so that the hospital and the ministry can attempt to reach a provisional solution to the liquidity problem of the CMC through mutual discussions and agreements on the undocumented individuals and feasible rates.
