WILLEMSTAD - The court has ruled in favor of the Rector Magnificus of the University of Curaçao in a case brought by a dissatisfied student. According to the student, she was unfairly denied an extension of her studies, preventing her from completing her Master of Science in Accountancy. The court determined that she had already received three extensions to complete her master's program, exceeded the standard duration, and that the program had been discontinued. As a result, her appeal was deemed unfounded.
The student pursued her studies at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences. She pursued her master's degree alongside her work but, due to medical issues, could not fully engage in her studies. She was granted three extensions but ultimately failed to submit her thesis by the final deadline of July 1, 2023. Consequently, the university informed her that she could not complete her master's program.
