Local | By Correspondent April 23, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Joint Court of Justice is opening vacancies for the positions of trainee judges, general judges, and judges specialized in tax law. The Court hopes to attract a sufficient number of qualified Caribbean legal professionals.

"Despite these efforts, the 'Caribbeanization' of the Court remains a continuous challenge," says President Mauritsz de Kort of the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba in an interview with the newspaper.

The Court for the six islands will have a total of 51 judges starting from August this year. Of these, 31 will work in Curaçao, 13 in Aruba, 5 in Sint Maarten, and 2 in the BES islands. Additionally, there are five substitute judges and one judicial officer in training. The announcement does not specify how many of them are 'local' judges.

The vacancies will be announced soon.
