WILLEMSTAD – The Raad van Advies van Curaçao is emphasizing its role as the island’s highest constitutional advisory body on legislation and governance, following the launch of a new public awareness campaign.
The campaign centers around an animated film explaining how the Council evaluates proposed laws and regulations before they move further through the legislative process.
According to the Council, its work involves reviewing whether draft legislation is legally sound, practical to implement, and compliant with existing laws, treaties, and constitutional principles.
The institution says this careful and critical review process plays an important role in safeguarding Curaçao’s democratic rule of law and maintaining the balance of power between government, parliament, and the judiciary.
By increasing public visibility, the Council hopes to strengthen understanding of how constitutional oversight functions behind the scenes and why legal scrutiny is essential for effective governance.
The animated video is now available to the public through the Council’s updated online platform, where citizens can also access advisory opinions and supporting information on legislative matters.
