Cost savings and new budget to strengthen CMC employees' position

Local | By Correspondent September 13, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - For the first time in 15 years, the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) will receive a budget of 12 million guilders for personnel costs in its multi-year budget. Minister of Finance and Health, Javier Silvania, expressed concerns about the current situation at the CMC in a letter, emphasizing: "The continuity of care must always be a priority, and no compromises should be made on the quality of services provided to our community."

The minister has taken this financial step to improve the position of CMC employees and to invest in the quality of care they provide. He also called on the CMC to review the current healthcare budget, with special attention to funds reserved for salary increases and indexing.

According to a KPMG report, the CMC can implement relatively simple cost-saving measures. These savings could create additional financial flexibility for healthcare staff. These steps aim to ensure uninterrupted and high-quality care for patients and the people of Curaçao.
