Cooper: Electric bus project for Autobusbedrijf Curaçao put ‘on hold’

Local | By Correspondent October 8, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The project to introduce electric buses for Autobusbedrijf Curaçao has been temporarily put "on hold," according to Minister of Traffic, Transportation, and Urban Planning, Charles Cooper. The initiative was a collaborative effort between the governments of the Netherlands and Curaçao, along with the Dutch research institute TNO, Refineria di Korsou (RdK), and ABC. However, it has been paused due to the new Dutch government’s decision to cut funding allocated for the project.

Minister Cooper stated that the new Secretary of State for Kingdom Relations, Zsolt Szabó, informed him about cuts to the Groeifonds (Growth Fund) as well as other financial resources. Cooper emphasized in his discussions with Szabó that the new stance taken by the Dutch government contradicts previously made agreements. According to the minister, the Netherlands is clearly not upholding its commitments.
