WILLEMSTAD, THE HAGUE - The conviction of former Minister of Public Health Jacinta Constancia and her ex-husband for fraud with face masks remains upheld. This was ruled by the Supreme Court in The Hague today.
The duo would have defrauded health insurance company BZV. Constancia's ex-partner would supply 40,000 face masks for a disproportionately high amount (365,000 guilders). In doing so, the usual procedures of the foundation were skipped. However, the face masks were never delivered and the amount of money was then largely siphoned off.
Constancia and her partner were sentenced to 21 months in prison in the so-called Dubnium case. The ex-MFK minister has also been removed from office for 5 years. With the judgment of the Supreme Court, the convictions are final. Both must go to prison for 20 months. That is 1 month less than what was imposed on appeal in 2020. The reduction has to do with the duration of the procedure.
