WILLEMSTAD - During the night and early morning of August 19th to 20th, the Traffic Unit in cooperation with the Royal Marechaussee and under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor's Office conducted an alcohol traffic control on Kaya Artiko.
A total of 108 drivers had to take breathalyzer test to measure the amount of consumed alcohol.
Eight drivers received a citation for exceeding the permitted alcohol limit, while one driver had their driver's license revoked.
After the test, the 8 drivers who received citations could continue their journey with a designated driver. A sober driver would handle the vehicle for them.
Drivers who were cited will have to appear in court at a later date.
Police also reminded all other drivers who consumed alcohol but were under the legal limit to be cautious.
Police will continue these checks, as alcohol impairs the ability to operate a vehicle, with potentially serious consequences.
The appeal remains: if you consume alcohol, let a sober driver take the wheel or use public transportation, where you don't have to be the driver yourself.
