WILLEMSTAD - On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, the Project Team for Supervision and Enforcement (PTH) of the Ministry of Traffic, Transportation, and Urban Planning (VVRP), in cooperation with the Curaçao Police Force (KPC), conducted a morning control on all individuals and vehicles operating in public transportation at the Megapier and Lucina Da Costa Gomez-Matheeuws roundabout.

The goal of this operation was to verify if the drivers at the mentioned locations possess all necessary permits to operate in public transportation in accordance with the "National Ordinance on Passenger Transport" and the "Road Traffic Ordinance Curaçao 2000" for taxis or tour operators, and to check for clandestine taxis. They also inspected if the vehicles used for tourist transportation have their documents in order.
A total of 16 taxis, 2 tour vehicles, and 3 private vehicles were inspected. Nine citations were issued to drivers for various infractions, such as lacking valid permits, driver's licenses, transport cards, and insurance. It was also noted that in one taxi, the tariff card ("wettelijke tariefkaart") was not visible. During the inspection, two vehicles were impounded for not complying with one or more requirements.
PTH commends all drivers who had their documents in order, both for themselves and their vehicles. They will continue with more of these types of inspections to ensure orderly public transportation and prevent clandestine public transportation, among other issues.
