WILLEMSTAD - The Consumer Association of Curaçao has highlighted the crucial importance for consumers to pay attention to the sealing and visibility of codes on the back of alcoholic beverage bottles. This alert comes in the wake of a workshop titled Integrity and Labeling, jointly organized by Herben Law, a local law firm specializing in intellectual property law.

During the workshop, representatives from the international alcohol industry, including DIAGEO & MHCS, drew attention to the growing issue of label manipulation. Such manipulations involve the removal or covering of codes on bottles, putting consumers at risk of unwittingly purchasing products whose authenticity and safety cannot be guaranteed. Clear signs of these manipulations include missing codes or tape covering the code.
"Consumers need to exercise caution and carefully inspect the packaging before making a purchase," emphasized an expert during the workshop. "The integrity of the seal and the visibility of the code serve as crucial indicators of the product's authenticity."
The Fundashon pa Konsumidó echoed the significance of this information in safeguarding consumer interests, underscoring the importance of consumer protection in the marketplace.
