Construction Begins on New ‘Pods Resort’ Near Jan Thiel

| By Correspondent March 6, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Construction has officially begun on a new tourism development known as the Pods Resort near the Jan Thiel area. The vacation park will be built on a site located between Caracasbaaiweg and Brakkeput Abou, close to the Spanish Water.

The project will consist of 258 compact vacation homes, referred to as “pods.” The units will be built in two configurations: a smaller version designed for two guests and a larger model that can accommodate up to six people. Developers plan to construct 129 units of each type. At full capacity, the resort could host more than one thousand visitors.

The development will occupy approximately seven hectares of land. The site had previously been earmarked for a large-scale project that included plans for a hotel, spa and marina, but that initiative was never realized. The property was later auctioned for about 5.5 million Caribbean guilders.

The pods are intended primarily for tourist rentals. Owners will be allowed to use their units themselves only a few weeks per year, with the remainder of the time reserved for short-term rentals to visitors.

According to the developers, the resort will include several amenities such as swimming pools, restaurants and recreational facilities.

Project organizers say the development responds to growing demand for vacation accommodations on the island and is expected to support the continued expansion of tourism in Curaçao.
