Construction begins at Playa Lagun without building permit

Local | By Correspondent October 14, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Construction has commenced on a beach project at Playa Lagun without the necessary building permit, with a concrete foundation already poured. In contrast, the situation at Jeremi Beach is different; here, the ground has only been prepared for a planned concrete beach tent, with vegetation cleared and construction lines marked.

Shortly after the ceremonial groundbreaking on September 29, which was attended by various ministers, the contractor quickly began pouring the concrete foundation at Playa Lagun. Following this, questions were asked to Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas regarding the status of the building permits.

Pisas has indicated in other media that the contractor began the construction work without authorization.

The contractor claims that the work at Playa Lagun falls under the site's preparation for construction and that pouring the foundation is legal without a building permit. According to the construction company, this means that groundworks can proceed even if the permit has not yet been finalized.

The situation raises concerns among local residents and environmentalists about the adherence to regulations and the potential impact of the construction on the area's natural beauty. The absence of a permit could lead to further scrutiny and demands for compliance with local laws regarding beach developments.
