Concerns Over Crumbling School Building in Santa Rosa: MAN-PIN Leader Calls for Urgent Government Action

WILLEMSTAD The school building of Kolegio Bellefaas Martis in the Santa Rosa neighborhood is reportedly in a state of serious disrepair and could pose a safety risk to both students and staff. This warning comes from MAN-PIN political leader Giselle Mc William, who is urging the government to take immediate action.

Video footage shared publicly shows parts of the concrete structure breaking off and falling, revealing exposed reinforcement bars. The affected area has been cordoned off with plastic tape, but the situation remains concerning for teachers and parents, according to local newspaper Extra.

Mc William is calling for a formal investigation into the structural condition of the Kolegio Bellefaas Martis building. She is also urging the government to launch a broader review into the condition of all public schools and other government-used buildings to assess their overall state of maintenance.

In 2022, renovation work began on several schools in Curaçao, funded by a €30 million contribution from the Netherlands, following commitments made by the previous government. However, Bellefaas Martis is not currently included in the list of schools slated for renovation.

The situation has sparked renewed calls for transparency and accountability regarding the use of public funds and the prioritization of infrastructure improvements, particularly in the education sector.
