Concerns Grow Over Community Mail Boxes on Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD – Dissatisfaction is mounting on Curaçao over the Community Mail Boxes system, which requires many residents to collect their own mail. A recent survey conducted by the consumer foundation found that letters and important documents often become wet and moldy, raising questions about the reliability of the service.

Residents have also complained about unsafe and inconvenient locations. In Brievengat, for example, people must cross a busy road to reach the mailboxes, while in other neighborhoods elderly residents face long walks to pick up their mail.

Postal company Cpost says it takes the concerns seriously but criticized the way the survey was published. According to the company, the official report has not yet been released and consultations with the consumer organization are still pending. Cpost further emphasized that vandalism remains a serious problem, disrupting services and generating additional costs.

To address the issues, Cpost is currently exploring the possibility of relocating the mailboxes to more central and accessible sites across the island.
