Concern in Curaçao: "We must learn from the Netherlands"

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao did not make any economic, social and financial progress in 2019. Governor Lucille George-Wout indicated this on Friday evening during her traditional New Year's speech. More economic contraction is also expected for 2020 and uncertainty will increase, according to a worried George-Wout.

She indicated in her speech that Curaçao should take an example from the Netherlands. According to her, things are going "very well there." She called on politicians to "look and learn" from both the Netherlands and Bonaire. But above all to "make use of the possibilities offered within the Kingdom."

She also stated that "in Curaçao we must listen to each other with respect" and "open our minds to the other."
