Comprehensive inspection on Klein Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent September 9, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - An enforcement team from the Ministry of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning (VVRP) is conducting a comprehensive inspection of Klein Curaçao, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN).

The reasons for the large-scale investigation are the illegal construction and cleaning activities on the island off the coast of Curaçao, which have caused significant concern. "The work threatens the natural balance and the habitat of the protected sea turtles," said Art Vreugdenhil of Sea Turtle Conservation Curaçao in an interview with Caribbean Network.

The inspection focuses on construction activities and environmental conservation on the small but ecologically valuable island. Sea Turtle Conservation Curaçao is also present to investigate where illegal structures have been built, hindering the sea turtles from laying their eggs.

Also aboard are staff from the environmental organization Carmabi, the police, and other relevant agencies.
