WILLEMSTAD - Since the weekend, various Jetair passengers have been stranded in different locations abroad, as the airline’s only operational aircraft is grounded due to unplanned maintenance.
Flights to destinations including Medellín, Sint Maarten, and Aruba have been canceled. Although the airline has been characteristically sparse with information, ABC Online Media understands that there is an issue with one of the engines on the Fokker 70 aircraft, which cannot be quickly fixed.
The current plan is to take an engine from another, non-operational aircraft in the hope of getting the still-operational Fokker back in the air. Unfortunately, this process may take several more days before the aircraft is operational again.
Complaints
There have been numerous complaints on various social media platforms, with passengers reporting that nothing has been arranged for them. Some passengers stuck in Medellín were reportedly told that there is no short-term solution and that they need to arrange their own tickets with another airline. This has caused significant outrage among affected passengers, who feel that Jetair has abandoned them. Additionally, most passengers have not had any arrangements made for hotel accommodations.
