WILLEMSTAD - An official from the Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning (VVRP), Mac Cijntje, has lodged a formal complaint against Zita Jesus-Leito with the National Investigation Department. According to the former PS politician, the ex-minister squandered public funds on the construction of the concrete bridge at Rif.
This bridge has cost the community over half a million dollars, and Cijntje argues that the ministry could have built a culvert at a significantly lower cost. He further accuses Jesus-Leito of causing destruction, as the ramp at Grote Knip was removed under her direction during her tenure as a PAR politician.
Moreover, the former minister proceeded with the construction without waiting for the investigation report, which incidentally was never made public. The structure took up a substantial portion of the beach and was widely regarded as aesthetically unpleasing. Furthermore, according to the then minister, obtaining a building permit for the wheelchair ramp in 2020 would have been impossible.
