WILLEMSTAD - The government of Curaçao is launching an investigation into the effects of weather and high temperatures in schools. To this end, a committee has been established, consisting of school boards, officials from the Ministry of Education, and Aqualectra.
One of the main tasks of the committee is to assess the capacity and supply of electricity, building insulation, and other defects in all school facilities.
The committee will provide advice and create an annual budget that details all the costs associated with repairing the buildings to install a system that can regulate the air in each classroom. This must be done for each school to obtain an overview of the financial impact.
Based on its research, the committee will develop an initial technical inventory, which can be seen as a baseline measurement indicating what needs to be done to establish a healthy climate in every classroom of every school on the island and what it will cost.
