Command transfer coast guard support point Hato (press release)

WILLEMSTAD - After serving as Head of the Hato Support Center in Curaçao for three years, Mr. Burger leaves the Caribbean Coast Guard. Mr van Heeringen is the new Head of the Support Center. He is going to have an interesting time at the Coast Guard where much attention will be paid to, among other things, the Intelligence Driven Police Action (IGP), whereby the Coast Guard will operate much more based on analyzes. At the time of his command Mr Burger was part of the relief efforts in St. Maarten after Hurricane Irma. The deployment and coordination from the Hato Steunpunt during the assistance to Sint Maarten was crucial for supplying the island.

Two AW-139 helicopters and 2 Dash-8 aircraft are stationed at the Hato coastguard support point. All these flying units have modern sensors and communication equipment to achieve optimum results in the execution of tasks both during the day and at night. The Dash-8 aircraft are also ideally suited to play a coordinating role between various units and the Rescue and Coordination Center. The AW-139 helicopters are invaluable for, for example: search, rescue, environment and fishing control. In addition to these typical coast guard tasks, the flying coast guard units are also deployed for relief tasks.

During the command transfer ceremony, in the presence of the Director of the Coast Guard Caribbean J. de Vin, Mr. Burger looked back to his time at the Coast Guard and all the operations in which he cooperated. He thanked everyone, and in particular his colleagues at Steunput Hato. The new Head Support, Mr van Heeringen, was welcomed.
