Colombian Tourist Dies After Snorkeling Incident on Klein Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD A tragic snorkeling incident on Klein Curaçao has claimed the life of a 46-year-old Colombian tourist, despite swift emergency response and medical evacuation efforts by the Coast Guard. 

On Friday afternoon, June 20, the Maritime Operations Center (MOC) of the Coast Guard received an urgent distress call from Klein Curaçao requesting immediate medical assistance. The man had reportedly swallowed a large amount of seawater while snorkeling. CPR was initiated on the beach right after the incident. He was vacationing with his wife and children at the time. 

The Coast Guard immediately deployed a helicopter for a medical evacuation. Coast Guard personnel onboard continued the resuscitation efforts as the man was airlifted to Curaçao. Upon arrival at Hato International Airport, an ambulance was standing by to transport him for further medical treatment. 

Sadly, despite all efforts, the man passed away. 

Authorities including Politur, the Police, and the Coast Guard were on the scene to provide support to the grieving family. On behalf of all involved, condolences have been extended to the family and loved ones during this difficult time.
