ORANJESTAD – Police arrested a man of Colombian nationality early yesterday morning after a boat containing drugs was found near Boca Mahos. The vessel and multiple packages of narcotics were seized during the operation.
At around 8:00 a.m., the police dispatch center received information that a boat had arrived at an inlet above Boca Mahos. A patrol from the Santa Cruz police station was sent to the area. While en route, officers encountered a man along the roadside who was completely wet. He told police that he had been aboard the boat that had arrived shortly before.
The man was immediately arrested on suspicion of violating drug laws.
At the location, police discovered quantities of drugs both inside the boat and hidden on the surrounding terrain. The vessel and all confiscated packages were seized as evidence. With assistance from the Kustwacht Aruba, the boat was moved to allow further investigation.
The operation involved officers from the Santa Cruz police station, the K-9 unit and other relevant services. The investigation is ongoing and police have not ruled out additional arrests.
