WILLEMSTAD - The meteorological service in Curaçao has issued code yellow again for today and warns of extreme heat. Traditionally, September and October are the hottest months, with temperatures higher than usual.
Temperatures can range from 34 to 36 degrees Celsius. The wind is moderate because of the storm that is passing in the north of the Caribbean.
When doing outdoor activities, drink plenty of water and avoid extra exertion. If you are not feeling well, rest as soon as possible in a cooler place or in the shade.
This extreme heat is a risk factor for people who do not have proper shelter to keep themselves cool and fresh. Excessive heat is the number one cause of death from weather conditions, which is why people should prepare for the dangers of extreme heat, according to the Meteo. Children, the elderly and heart patients are most at risk.
Extreme heat can cause dehydration, heat stroke, high blood pressure, headaches, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps and even stroke after prolonged exposure.
