WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao may have to deal with the consequences of an earthquake. The Meteorological Service (Meteo) warns against this. The weather service has therefore issued code yellow.
The earthquake originated 41 kilometers west of the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe this morning and had a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale, which is described as "powerful". The Meteo emphasizes that the quake has no chance of generating a tsunami for Curaçao.
The weather service does indicate that if the aftershocks occur, it is best to lie under sturdy furniture. When you're outside, it's best to find an open space and avoid bridges and power lines.
