WILLEMSTAD, THE HAGUE - The government may renegotiate the coastguard agreement with the Netherlands. The Parliament of Curaçao gave permission for this during a meeting at the end of last week.
The current coalition thinks the seven million guilders that must be paid extra from this year is much too high. Former Minister of Justice Quincy Girigorie of the now-opposition party PAR came under criticism. He would have pushed through the agreement at the end of the previous government term.
With eleven votes in favor and four against, Parliament agreed to renegotiations in May with the Dutch Minister of Justice Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius.
