WILLEMSTAD - Fourteen aspiring coastguards received their coastguard certificates and Special Police Agent diplomas recently. The aspirants were awarded their certificates and diplomas during a ceremony at the Parera Naval Base.

After a year of training, these aspirants are now full-fledged coastguards and will be deployed in operational roles at coast guard support points in Sint Maarten, Curaçao, and Aruba.
These aspirants began their Basic Coast Guard Training (BOK) in August 2022. In the following four weeks, they underwent their formative weeks, the "Samen Sterk" period, during which they were tested both mentally and physically.
After the formative weeks, the rest of the BOK commenced, including lessons in basic and shooting skills, seamanship, legal subjects, nautical subjects, and boarding procedures, among others. These aspirants have overcome numerous physical, mental, and theoretical challenges and are now prepared to protect society.
